Teak Treasures: Unlocking the Secrets to Proper Teak Care

Published May 12th, 2023 by Tobackadmin

Teak is a popular choice for outdoor furniture and decking due to its durability and natural resistance to water, insects, and decay. To maintain the teak's appearance and to keep its longevity. Here are some important maintenance rules that you should follow:

1. Cleaning: Regular cleaning helps remove the dirt, grime, and stains from the teak surface. You can use mild soap or teak cleaner and a sponge or brush to scrub the wood gently. Rinse thoroughly with water when finished.

2. Avoid harsh cleaners: Avoid using harsh cleaners such as chemicals, bleach, pressure washing as they can damage the wood fibers and strip away the natural oils of the teak.

3. Sanding: Overtime, teak may develop a weathered grey patina due to exposure to the elements. If you want to maintain the golden brown color, it is crucial to lightly sand the surface of the wood to remove the grey layer. Use fine-grit sandpaper and sand in direction of the wood grain. After sanding , clean the teak and apply a protective sealant.

4. Oiling and sealing: Applying teak oil or sealant helps preserve the natural oils within the wood and protect it from drying out, cracking, and warping. Before applying any product, ensure that the teak is clean and dry. Follow the instructions by the manufacturer and apply the oil with a soft brush or cloth. Allow it to penetrate the wood for a few minutes, and then wipe off excess with a clean cloth.
